Additional details
In Masechta Bechoros
1. Hashem wanted to give us a Mitzva to do with the first of our produce, so we know that all is his.
2.To remember the miracle that Hashem did for us with the firstborn of Egypt, that he killed them and saved us.
When man sees that he has labored and at long last made produce, and this produce is as dear to him as the pupil of his eye and he gives it to Hashem. It leaves his possession and enters the possession of Hashem. He then realizes that all belongs to Hashem.
